How to turn on two-step verification for your account

With two-step verification, signing into your account asks for two things: your password and a six-digit code generated by an app on your phone. If someone gets your password, they can't get in without your phone.

It's optional and each person turns it on for their own account, from «Mi perfil» (My profile). The whole team doesn't need to turn it on: whoever manages the restaurant can have it and a server not, or the other way around.

#What you need

An authenticator app on your phone. Any of them works: Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy or whichever one you already use for other accounts. They're free.

#How to turn it on

  1. Open «Configuraciones → Seguridad y dispositivos» (Settings → Security and devices) (from your account menu) and find the «Verificación en dos pasos» (Two-step verification) section.

  2. Press «Activar» (Turn on) and confirm your password.

  3. Open the authenticator app and scan the QR code. If you can't scan it, type in the key shown next to it by hand.

  4. Enter the six-digit code the app shows you.

  5. Save the recovery codes. There are ten, they're shown only once, and each one lets you sign in once if you lose your phone. Copy them or write them down somewhere safe before pressing «Listo» (Done).

From then on, every time you sign in you'll be asked for the code after the password.

#Remembering a computer

When you enter the code, you can check «Recordar este equipo por 30 días» (Remember this computer for 30 days). On that browser you won't be asked for the code again during that time. The password is always asked for, on every computer.

Remembered computers appear in your profile with their name and how long they're valid. You can revoke one, or all of them at once, if you left a session open on a computer that isn't yours. After 30 days the code is asked for again even if you used that computer every day: remembering doesn't renew itself.

#If you lose your phone

Sign in with one of your recovery codes instead of the app's code. Each code works only once, and your profile shows how many you have left. If you're running low, generate new codes right there: the previous ones stop working at that moment.

To move verification to a new phone, turn it off from your profile — it asks for your password and a code, which can be a recovery code — and turn it on again by scanning from the new phone.

#If you have neither the phone nor the codes

You can't get in on your own, and that's on purpose: if there were a shortcut, anyone would have it. Ask whoever manages your restaurant's users to reset your two-step verification from «Usuarios» (Users). Your next sign-in will be with the password only, and you can turn it on again.

#If you manage the restaurant

In «Usuarios» (Users) you can see who has verification turned on, with a mark next to their status. If someone on your team is left without a phone and without codes, you can reset their verification from there. Your own verification isn't reset from Users: it's managed from your profile, with your password and your code.
